IMEC started in 1982 in a small metal building on the south side of Monett. That first building was 40 feet by 75 feet, with no insulation, lights or heating and was located on a rock lane a quarter mile off a blacktop country road. Not much, but enough to get started.
In the early days, it was all manual equipment and just two employees.
Steady growth allowed construction of a new building on the north edge of Monett in 1988. IMEC has continued to grow resulting in four substantial additions. Total plant space now is 45,000 sq ft with an additional 1,500 sq ft for office space.
The equipment used by IMEC ranges from small hand tools to large computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The first piece of CNC equipment, a turret punch, was purchased in 1987. Today, as expected in a modern facility that specializes in close-tolerance, precision work, all major pieces of equipment, lasers, turret punches, press brakes and machining centers, are CNC.
Supporting equipment gives us the ability to perform many additional operations, so we can make not just a part, but a completed assembly or subassembly. Hardware insertion, welding, spot welding, graining, silkscreening and finishing are some of the regularly performed operations. In-house powder coating means your parts and assemblies are made and painted under the same roof. To truly finish an assembly, we can also handle the sourcing, stocking and installation of purchased components, everything from locks and gaskets to motors and electronics.
Further cementing our commitment to quality, IMEC was ISO 9001 certified in 1999 and has maintained that certification since. Currently, IMEC is ISO 9001:2015 certified.
We continually plan for the future with ongoing investments in machinery and software and other resources to continue to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.
